DeLand, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team used a 42-point second half and 14 points from both Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y.) and Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.) to secure a 65-43 victory over Stetson (2-10) Monday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.
The Knights (7-6) had four players score double-digits in points in the contest, with Jasmine Stovall (Lawrenceville, Ga.) scoring a career-high 12 points and D'Nay Daniels (Atlanta, Ga.) adding 10.
UCF shot .400 from the floor in the game, which included a season-high .556 (5-for-9) from behind the arc. The Black and Gold also out-rebounded Stetson 51-32 in the contest.
Tia Lewis (Poulan, Ga.) led all rebounders with 14 boards and Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) followed close behind with 13 for UCF.
The Knights and the Hatters remained neck-and-neck through the 12:22 mark in the second half. Tied 36-36, UCF went on a 22-2 run, getting 10 points from Wiley during the stretch. The Black and Gold defense held Stetson scoreless for 6:04 in the final period, before the home team hit a free throw at the 2:13 mark.
Despite shooting only .250 in the first half, the Knights went into the locker room tied with the Hatters, 23-23, thanks to a .833 clip from the free throw line and 26-16 rebound advantage.
White paced the Knights with eight points in the opening period, with Cannon and Lewis grabbing seven and six rebounds, respectively, to lead the Black and Gold on the glass.
The Knights return home to the new UCF Arena for the first time in 2008 for their Conference USA opener against Southern Miss on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
