Texas-Pan Am Defeats NJIT At UCF Holiday Classic

ORLANDO,Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Texas Pan-American (8-10) collected 24 points off 16 turnovers in a 76-61 win over the New Jersey Institute of Technology (0-15) in the consolation game of the UCF Holiday Classic Monday.

By halftime, UTPA's Zach Trader racked up 10 points and seven rebounds. He quickly pulled down three more boards to open the second half, securing his fourth double-double of the season. Trader then left the game for a 2:51 span due to a back injury, but returned to finish with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

UTPA built a pair of 12-point leads in the first half, and Dexter Shankle sank a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining to help the Broncs carry a 41-31 advantage into the break.

A 13-point run beginning at the 15:38 mark of the second half enabled UTPA to boost its lead to 56-36 and the Broncs never looked back.

Kraig Peters paced NJIT with 19 points, as he became just the 22nd player in Highlander history to reach the 1,000-point plateau with 1,001 for his career.
