ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Kellen Allen posted 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting as Long Island advanced to the title game of the UCF Holiday Classic with a 95-83 win over Texas-Pan American Sunday.
Long Island (9-3) extended its winning streak to five games, the Blackbirds' longest since posting 14-straight victories during 1997-98.
LIU finished with six players in double-figures, while UTPA (7-10) was paced by Paul Stoll's career-high 24 points.
Early in the first half, UTPA secured a 9-0 run over a span of 5:14 to take a 22-17 lead. However, Long Island responded by scoring 11 unanswered points en route to entering the break with a slim 35-34 edge.
Even though it went 3-of-11 from long distance in the opening half, Long Island drained its first six 3-pointers in the second stanza to jump out to a 59-46 cushion. The Blackbirds then cruised the rest of the way for the 12-point triumph.
