ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore forward Tony Davis (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) entered UCF's contest at USF on Saturday with 19 career blocks. Sometime during the Knights' bus ride on I-4 to Tampa, Davis became a shot-blocking threat.
On Saturday, he established a school record with eight swats. No UCF player had recorded at least six blocks since Anthony Williams posted six versus South Dakota State in 2005.
John Friday held the previous UCF single-game record with seven, which he achieved twice in 1987. The Knights recorded 10 blocks at USF, which tied for third on the school's single-game register.
Davis just missed a triple-double versus the Bulls. He did finish with 10 points and 10 boards for his first career double-double. Davis canned a pair of 3-pointers against USF.
He played a career-high 35 minutes on Saturday.
On the season, Davis is averaging 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds. He has now has 12 blocks in 2007-08.
UCF will meet Ole Miss on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the new UCF Arena. Single-game tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets and at the UCF ticket office at Bright House Networks Stadium.
Notes: The Knights did not practice on Monday... The team's game with Ole Miss on Saturday will be televised live regionally on CSS.
