UCF Women's Basketball Set to Host UCF Holiday Classic

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team is set to host the UCF Holiday Classic Dec. 19-20 at the new UCF Arena, hosting Appalachian State Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., before concluding the tournament with a 7:30 p.m. meeting with UNC Greensboro Thursday. Both of the Knights' competitors hail from the Southern Conference, where they rank in at No. 8 (UNC Greensboro) and tied for No. 9 (Appalachian State) in the league.

Reunited
UCF head coach Joi Williams and former Murray State standout Ashley Hayes will reunite under new circumstances on Thursday night - opposing coaches. Williams coached Hayes for four seasons at Murray State where the first year UNC Greensboro assistant coach was a member of the Murray State basketball team from 2003-07. The Kokomo, IN native is Murray State's all-time leader in career three-point field goals and tied the single game record for most three-pointers in a game during her junior year.

That's A Lot of Points
The Knights' (5-5) 90-point tally in Saturday's win over Southeastern Louisiana was the most for the squad since 2001. On Nov. 24, 2001 UCF secured a 90-84 victory over Colgate University at the San Juan Shootout. The Black and Gold's highest scoring game was a 127-55 win over Edward Waters on Dec. 5, 1981.

Previewing Appalachian State
The Mountaineers travel to Orlando with a 1-7 overall record and a 0-2 So Con record, with their only win of the season coming against NC Central on Nov. 16. In that contest, Gigi Thomas scored a team-high 17 points, while Whitney Randolph grabbed seven rebounds. Despite registering only one win, Appalachian State has out-shot its opponents from beyond the arch by over 6 percent, hitting 36 three-pointers on the year compared to 29 by its competition. The Mountaineers have also tallied 107 steals in eight games, 17 more than their foes.

Previewing UNC Greensboro
The Spartans hold a 0-1 conference record and an overall mark of 1-8. They recorded their lone win of the season with a 74-64 victory over High Point to kick-off the month of December. Kemena Brooks paced UNC-Greensboro with 15 points in the contest, while Brittany Frazier had a team-high nine rebounds. Frazier leads the Spartans in scoring this season, averaging 7.0 points per game and has a team-leading eight blocks.

The Series
? Wednesday marks the fourth meeting between the Knights and Appalachian State, with the Mountaineers holding a 2-1 advantage. The last time the two teams met was for UCF's 2006-07 season-opener on Nov. 11, a 62-54 loss on the road.
? Thursday's match-up between UCF and UNC Greensboro will be the first for the two programs.

Last Outing
Freshman guard D'Nay Daniels (Atlanta, Ga.) scored a game-high 22 points, the most of her career, as the UCF women's basketball team downed Southeastern Louisiana, 90-68, at Warden Arena Saturday night. The Knights (5-5) had four players score in double-digits and shot .548 overall in the contest.

Jelisa Caldwell (Macon, Ga.) had a career-high 16 points, while Tia Lewis (Poulan, Ga.) and Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Cannon also had a game-high 13 rebounds against the Lions for her fifth double-double of the season.

The Knights hit the road for a New Year's Eve contest against Stetson at the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for Noon.
