Orlando, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - Keith Tribble, Director of Athletics and Executive Vice President of the University of Central Florida Athletics Association (UCFAA), has been appointed to sit on the Board of Directors of the BCA. Notified by BCA Executive Director Floyd A. Keith, the appointment is for a four-year term extending through August, 2011.
"It is an honor of the highest regard to sit on such a prestigious Board, of an organization that has meant so much to my career," said Tribble. "I believe my experiences as a student-athlete and administrator in and around the collegiate community for over 30 years will lend to a mutually beneficial relationship in this role with the BCA. I look forward to our first meeting."
Tribble's BCA Board appointment comes on the heels of April's announcement that he serve on the prestigious NCAA Division I Management Council, which places UCF in an advantageous position as the 49-member committee is responsible for monitoring the activities of collegiate athletics.
In May 2006, the BCA selected Tribble to receive its "Images of Excellence Award," presented to those in the community that demonstrate a commitment by action to serve youth in the community. The award was in recognition of Tribble's force in the advancement of athletic careers for minority candidates as the Chief Executive Officer of the historic Orange Bowl Committee for 13 years. It was near the same time of this award that Tribble was named UCF's ninth Director of Athletics a month earlier in April.
Tribble was also recognized in 2005 by Black Enterprise on its list of the "50 Most Powerful Blacks in Sports" and was a featured executive in South Florida CEO magazine. Twice in 2003, Sports Illustrated recognized Tribble as one of the most respected figures in the field of collegiate athletics. First, SI named him the 23rd "Most Influential Minority in Sports." Within SI's ranking, Tribble was rated the second-most influential minority figure in the world of collegiate athletics. Next, the magazine added in its 2003 college football review that Tribble was No. 12 among the "20 Most Powerful People" in college football.
About the BCA
The Black Coaches & Administrators (BCA is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to foster the growth and development of ethnic minorities at all levels of sports both nationally and internationally. The BCA is committed to creating a positive enlightened environment where issues can be examined closely, debated sincerely and resolved honestly. The BCA's focus involves the concerns of its colleagues in professional sports, NCAA (Division I, II, and III), NAIA (Division I and II), junior college and high school levels.
The BCA Past, Present and Future:
In 1987, the issue of ethnic minority advancement was being discussed simultaneously by two separate, but significant African American coaching groups, the assistant basketball and football coaches. Eventually, these two groups merged to form the nucleus of what would become the Black Coaches Association. The BCA was founded in 1988 and the membership was extended to all coaches.
Throughout the BCA's 20-year history, the organization has been at the forefront of the effort to enhance the employment opportunities and professional development of the ethnic minority professional. While maintaining this original mission, the BCA has continued to view the immediate and future concerns of the association within the framework of our rapidly evolving society.
