Smith Collects Three More First-Team All-America Selections

Dec. 11, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF junior running back Kevin Smith continued to mount up All-America honors as the Associated Press, Si.com and Phil Steele's all named the Miami native to their respective first teams on Tuesday.

With the AP selection in hand, the five teams used to determine NCAA consensus All-America honors have all been made public and Smith was on four of the five first-teams released. He shares consensus first-team honors at running back with Arkansas junior Darren McFadden and is the first Knight in school history to earn that distinction.

To date, Smith has been named to seven All-America first teams and the Rivals.com second team. Besides his most recent trio of first-team honors, Smith has also been named to the Football Writers Association of America, the Walter Camp, The Sporting News, and CBSsports.com All-America first teams.

"I am very happy for Kevin," UCF head coach George O'Leary said. "From the first game to the 13th game this season, his attitude has stayed the same. It is reassuring to see guys like Kevin, who are not me guys, but are the consummate team players. He is well-deserving of all the honors he is receiving."

The Knights, who reached 10 wins in a season for the just the second time in program history with their victory over Tulsa in the Bright House Networks Conference USA Championship Game, will finish the 2007 campaign on Dec. 29 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. Mississippi State. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Smith enters the bowl season as the nation's leading rusher and scorer with 2,448 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns.
