Billings Named UCF Boathouse Director

Dec. 10, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF rowing head coach Leeanne Crain was pleased to announce Monday that Peter Billings has been hired as the program's new boathouse director. The New Hampshire native joins the Knights during a period in which they are currently building the Intercollegiate Rowing Center on Lake Pickett.

"Peter has spent most of his career in the boat building industry, and he brings a tremendous amount of experience to UCF," said Crain. "As a former national team lightweight rower, he continues to be passionate about the sport. We are very fortunate to have him join our staff."

Billings has been associated with the water for most of his life. A 1973 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he was a rower on the United States National Team from 1971-74, as well as in 1981. Billings was a national lightweight rowing champion from 1971-74, and continues to be a national masters rowing champion dating back to 1983.

Billings then served as the coach for the MIT men's freshman lightweight crew for four seasons and became the vice president at Composite Engineering, Inc., where he was responsible for management of rowing shell production and repair, all non-routine communication with rowing customers and was engaged in the design and production work on projects outside of rowing shell production from 1975-00.

In 1984, Billings supervised rowing shell and oar repairs, performing most of the repairs himself, at the Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Recently, Billings was the Director of Research and Development at Elite Boat Works, LLC, from 2000-03, and the Shop Supervisor at Maine Composites, Inc., from 2003-05.
