Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - In its final regular-season home match, the UCF volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision (19-30, 30-24, 30-27, 30-15) to Southern Miss on Friday evening at the UCF Education Gym. Freshman Blaire Brueggemeyer (Burleson, Texas/Arlington Grace Prep) tallied 39 assists and two services aces in the match.
The Knights (9-21, 0-15) honored their two seniors, Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) and Cassie Ramaekers (Blue Grass, Iowa/Indian Hills CC) before the match.
UCF won the first game, hitting .270 and holding the Golden Eagles to a .091 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo./North Kansas City) had a game-high six kills in the first game. Campbell finished with a match-high 18 kills and 14 digs.
Brueggemeyer also had a strong first game with 11 assists.
The Golden Eagles (11-20, 2-13) took the next three, hitting .441 in game four.
Ashley Petrinec led the Southern Miss offense with 17 kills, hitting .452 for the match. The Golden Eagles received double-digit assists from Katie Matlock (25) and Kristen Metz (11).
Junior Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas/Birmingham-Southern) had 10 kills and six digs on the night for the hosts.
UCF will conclude the regular season on Sunday, playing at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.
