Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF running back Kevin Smith was named to the Rivals.com All-America second team officials with the website announced Thursday evening. The All-America honor is the first of Smith's career and he is the first Knight to earn All-America honors since Daunte Culpepper was a first-teamer in 1998.
Smith leads the NCAA Bowl Subdivision in rushing yards (2,164), touchdowns (26), carries (376) and 100-yard rushing games (11) this season. He has rushed for 1,249 yards and scored 15 touchdowns during the Knights' six-game winning streak. Smith was joined at running back on the second team by Ohio State's Chris Wells.
Several Knights have earned freshman All-America honors and honorable mention All-America status since 1998, but Smith is the first to land a spot on an actual team since Culpepper was named a first team member by the Sports Network and NFL Draft Digest.
Earlier this week, Smith was named the Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Year along with Tulsa's Paul Smith. The two Smith's will face each other on Dec. 1 as the Knights will take on Tulsa in the Bright House Networks C-USA Championship game at Bright House Networks Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for Noon ET and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
Great seats to the Knights' showdown with Tulsa can still be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling (407) 839-3900 or by going online at UCFAthletics.com.
