Nov. 28, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF men's tennis head coach Bobby Cashman announced on Wednesday that Eugene Dolgovykh of Palm Coast has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the team in the fall of 2008. Dolgovykh is attending Matanzas High School.

Dolgovykh is currently ranked 58th in the nation and 13th in the state of Florida. At 6-foot-2, he is listed as a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net.

Dolgovykh knocked off the 10th-ranked player in Florida, Luke Mojica, during a summer tournament in May. Dolgovykh has also pulled off two impressive wins against Blas Moros, who is ranked 9th in Florida and 39th in the nation.

Overall, the Palm Coast native holds a 43-17 mark in singles play. Dolgovykh has a 2-3 record against blue-chip recruits and is 8-10 against five-star recruits.

"Eugene is not only a terrific player, but a great man," said Cashman. "We feel he is going to be a great asset to the program and will contribute a great deal to this team."

The Knights went 12-12 in 2007, with a 9-3 mark at the UCF Tennis Complex. UCF achieved an ITA rank of 62nd midway through the season, the highest since the 2003.

The Knights begin spring play on Jan. 18 at the USF Invitational. Including the host, USF, the Knights will also play Auburn and William & Mary.
