2007 Media C-USA All-Freshman Team
Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF filled a league-high eight spots on the media's All-Conference USA First Team, which was released by conference officials on Tuesday. The Knights had seven representatives in all on the first team as junior Joe Burnett was named to the squad as both a defensive back and punt returner. UCF also had a pair of players named to the second team and a trio of Knights were mentioned on the media's all-freshman team as well.
Junior Kevin Smith, who leads the NCAA bowl subdivision with 2,164 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns this season was joined on the first-team offensive unit by three UCF linemen: Kyle Smith, Josh Sitton and Pat Brown. Those three offensive linemen have combined for 121 starts in their respective UCF careers.
Burnett was joined on the first-team defensive unit by senior end Leger Douzable. Burnett led C-USA with six interceptions during the season, while Douzable registered 5.5 sacks and a career-high 44 tackles.
Senior long snapper Michael Buscemi was one of five specialists named to the first team along with Burnett. Buscemi was a second-team honoree a year ago on the coaches' all-conference team. Burnett has been the league's first-team punt return in each of his three seasons for the Knights.
The Knights' second-team members were both on the defensive side of the ball as junior strong safety Sha'reff Rashad and freshman defensive end Bruce Miller were honored. Rashad leads the team with 90 tackles and also has four of the Knights' league-best 20 interceptions. Miller leads the team with six sacks - a total that is tied for the fourth most in the league.
Miller was also named to the all-freshman team along with fellow Knights Jah Reid and Derrick Hallman. Reid was the lone UCF offensive player on the rookie team, while Hallman led all UCF first-year players with 38 tackles in the regular season.
The Knights will take on Tulsa in the C-USA Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Bright House Networks Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon ET and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
