ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - On Wednesday, UCF men's golf head coach Nick Clinard announced that a pair of players have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Knights next fall. Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) and Ben Martin from Trinidad & Tobago will both play for UCF during the 2008-09 campaign.
Barber was the top player on the Florida Junior Tour during the 2006-07 season. He is currently ranked 40th in the country in the class of 2008 by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard.
"Blayne is an exceptional kid from a great family. He is one of, if not one of the best, players from the state of Florida in the class of 2008," said Clinard. "He is an excellent ball striker and competitor and has a true passion for the game. Blayne is a hard worker and will be an outstanding addition to the UCF golf family."
Martin is currently attending the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He has excelled in numerous international events during his junior career.
"Ben is a very dynamic player that understands how to play the game of golf. Ben has had much success in international events and a hidden gem for UCF," said Clinard. "He is very talented with a bright future in the game and will be another great addition to the UCF golf family."
The 2007-08 Knights participated in five events this fall and finished in the top-10 in each tournament. UCF finished second in a pair of events, including the Prestige at PGA WEST in Palm Springs, Calif.
Clinard's squad is currently ranked 23rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
The Knights will return to action in the spring on Feb. 17 at the John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
