Baseball Announces Plans for Black & Gold World Series

Nov. 2, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF baseball team released an addition to its fall schedule Friday, as it will hold a Black & Gold World Series Nov. 6-8 at Jay Bergman Field. According to the coaches, this will be the first time since 1994 that the Knights will hold the event.

"The reason why we have decided to reintroduce these games is because we have tremendous balance on this team, and our players came to us with the desire to do it," said associate head coach Craig Cozart. "So based on the way the fall has gone, we thought this would be a good way to culminate the fall season."

All three games will be free for fans and students. From Tuesday to Thursday, batting practice is set to begin at 9:15 a.m. with the game immediately to follow at approximately 10:15 a.m. To access parking for the games, purchase a parking pass on the first floor of Garage F, which is right next door to Jay Bergman Field.

The Black & Gold World Series will be the only chance for Knight fans to get a glimpse of the 2008 squad before the spring season opens up. UCF's first home game will be Feb. 22 vs. Florida A&M.

Overall, UCF has all eight starting position players returning this year, with the only loss in the lineup coming from the designated hitter spot, Matt Horwath. The Knights also return their top three starting pitchers in Jaager Good, Mitch Houck and Kyle Sweat, as well as their closer Justin Weiss. Adding to that talented core of veterans, 13 newcomers join the program this season.

Gametracker for all three games will be available at www.ucfathletics.com.
