Williams Named C-USA Player of the Week

Nov. 19, 2007

IRVING, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF freshman kick returner Khymest Williams (Lutcher, La./Lutcher) was tabbed by Conference USA as the league's special teams player of the week, conference officials announced Monday. Williams earned his first award as a Knight following a 99-yard opening kickoff return for a touchdown against SMU on Saturday.

Williams' return of 99-yards tied Todd Cleveland (11/19/94) for the fourth-longest return in school history. The Louisiana native is averaging 41.4 yards per return this season. Williams now has two returns for more than 60 yards this season, with the other being a 63-yard return against Marshall (11/3).

Williams helped the Knights (8-3, 6-1 C-USA) to a 49-20 win over the Mustangs in Dallas on Saturday.

C-USA also honored Southern Miss running back Damion Fletcher and Memphis linebacker Jake Kasser as the offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively.

Williams is the second Knight to be honored with a special teams award this season. Kicker Michael Torres earned the award Sept. 4 after making all three of the field goals that he attempted in the Knights' season-opening win over NC State.

UCF hosts UTEP on Saturday in the regular-season finale at Bright House Networks Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. If the Knights win, the squad will host the C-USA Championship Game on Dec. 1.
