UCF Women's Golf Coach Emilee Klein Announces Signing Of Marika Lendl For 2008-09 Class

Nov. 19, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF women's golf coach Emilee Klein announced on Monday that Marika Lendl has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Knights for the 2008-09 campaign. Lendl, the oldest daughter of former men's tennis star Ivan Lendl, has established herself as one of the top junior players in the country.

"Marika will be a huge addition and an incredible asset to our team," Klein said. "She really has a passion for the game."

Lendl has registered seven top-five finishes in American Junior Golf Association events during her junior career, which began in 2004. Two of those top-fives were victories as she captured the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic and the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship in 2006.

"Marika has a great short game and an excellent feel around the greens," Klein added. "She can also hit it a long way off the tee. She just has a strong overall game and we look forward to having her here to help us out next season."

Lendl prepped at the Pendleton School in Bradenton, Fla., which is on the campus of the IMG Academy. Two weeks ago at the Future Collegian World Tour event in St. Augustine, Fla., Lendl carded a first-round 66 en route to placing second in the field.
