ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -Jermaine Taylor had a game high 20 points and seven rebounds as UCF defeated Norfolk State 78-64 Friday night.
The Knights (2-0) started the game with a 9-0 run and never trailed. The largest lead, 64-44, came with 11:04 left in the game off a 3-pointer by Mike Battle.
Norfolk State (1-2) responded with an 11-2 run cutting the lead to 66-55 with 6:44 left. The closest the Spartans got was 71-62 off a 3-pointer from Kevin Worsley with 3:45 remaining.
Dave Noel scored 14 points and had six rebounds for Central Florida and Chip Cartwright added 11 points and seven assists.
Worsley led Norfolk State with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tony Murphy finished with 13 points.
The Knights led by as many as 15 points in the first half, but the Spartans were able to cut the lead to 41-33 at halftime.
