HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team claimed game one vs. Memphis in the first round of the Conference USA Championship, but saw the Tigers claw back to take the match, 3-1 (27-30, 30-24, 30-26, 30-18), Thursday in Huntington, W.Va. The Knights completed their 2007 campaign with a 9-23 record.
Junior Stephanie Serna recorded a team-high 13 kills for the Black and Gold, while sophomore Erin Campbell and freshman Kerry Brown posted nine kills apiece. Also leading the way for the Knights, freshman Blaire Brueggemeyer amassed 38 assists, and Campbell collected 16 digs.
For the match, UCF had 11 service aces compared to the Tigers' six, highlighted by Campbell's five aces during the evening.
UCF, which was the No. 12 seed for the tournament, hit .244 as a team during its 30-27 game-one victory over No. 5 Memphis. The Knights were able to take the 1-0 lead thanks to a 4-1 advantage in blocks.
However, the Tigers stormed back and hit .214 in game two, .208 in game three and .400 in the deciding game. Memphis will now take on No. 4 Tulsa Friday at 7 p.m.
