UCF Volleyball Team to Compete in Conference USA Championship This Weekend

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team will face fifth-seed Memphis in the first round of the Conference USA Volleyball Championship Thursday afternoon in Huntington, W.Va. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET.

The Knights are the 12th seed going into the event, holding a 9-22 overall record and a 0-16 league record. Memphis concluded its regular-season schedule with a 22-11 clip, and posted an 11-5 C-USA mark.

UCF and Memphis squared-off twice during the regular-season, with the Tigers holding a 2-0 advantage over the Knights. In the teams' last meeting, the Black and Gold took Memphis to the decisive fifth game at the new UCF Arena. Andrea Youngblood (Castle Rock, Colo.) led the Knights with seven service aces in the match, tying her for third on the UCF single-match register.

Sophomore Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded a double-double in the contest for the Black and Gold, with 14 kills and 22 digs. The outside hitter has totaled ten double-doubles this season to lead her team.

The host Marshall took earned the top seed in the tournament with a 15-1 C-USA record, while Tulane (26-5, 14-2 C-USA), UAB (22-8, 12-4 C-USA) and Tulsa (24-8, 11-5 C-USA) round out the top five seeds for the league championship. The top four teams receive a first-round bye.

The C-USA Championship kicks-off at noon on Thursday with No. 7 seed Rice (12-16, 7-9) taking on No. 10 seed UTEP (9-19, 3-13). Action continues throughout the day with No. 6 seed Houston (13-14, 8-8) facing No. 11 seed Southern Miss (12-20, 3-13), followed by No. 8 seed East Carolina (15-16, 6-10) versus No. 9 seed SMU (16-14, 6-10). The Knights' 7 p.m. match against Memphis is the final contest of opening day play.

Sunday's championship match will be nationally televised live by CSTV at 6 p.m. ET.
