Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team continues play in the UCF Knights Classic when they face-off with Coppin State Sunday. The contest is scheduled to tip-off at 4:30 p.m. at the new UCF Arena.
In the Knights' 72-57 loss to Texas Tech Friday night, both Tia Lewis and Emma Cannon posted double-doubles for the Black and Gold. Lewis had team-highs with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Cannon scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards.
UCF started four freshmen and a redshirt freshman in the contest.
The Knights' rookies dominated the floor in the game, logging all but one minute of time on the hardwood. The newcomers also accounted for every UCF statistic in the contest.
The Black and Gold bench scored 15 points and had six rebounds, which included 11 points from D'Nay Daniels.
The Eagles return three starters and nine letterwinners from a team that went 25-8 last season and won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title with a 18-0 league mark. Coppin State was invited to the WNIT following its successful season, losing in the second round to USF.
Despite losing its first game of the season to Northeastern, 69-65, Friday at the UCF Knights Classic, the Eagles shot 42.4% from the floor and put up 65 points in the game. Rashida Suber led Coppin State with 20 points and three steals, while Jennifer Martin had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against the Huskies.
The Knights and the Eagles will meet for the first time on Sunday.
