ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF women's soccer goalkeeper Jennifer Manis was voted onto the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Third Team, which was released Thursday. The senior from Pensacola has earned a 3.68 grade-point average while majoring in biology at UCF.
Manis was recently one of just 20 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award (Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School), which honors student-athletes for their attributes in the classroom and in the community, as well as their character and athletic achievements. She was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team a year ago, and earned spots on the 2005 and 2006 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
On the pitch, Manis has started every match in net for the Knights, posting an 11-3-3 record with six shutouts. She also has a 1.01 goals-against average and 90 saves on the season, which rank sixth on the UCF single-season chart. The highlight of the season occurred when she posted four-straight shutouts to open the C-USA schedule.
Manis' efforts have helped UCF (11-3-3, 6-1-1) sit in first place in the C-USA standings, and the Black and Gold have just one match remaining. UCF will host Southern Miss Friday at 7 p.m., as Manis will be one of five Knights honored on senior night.
