ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - In the first regular-season basketball game inside the new UCF Arena, the Northeastern women's squad held on for a 69-65 win over Coppin State on Friday evening. The contest was part of the UCF Knights Classic.
Ashlee Feldman hit six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points for Northeastern (1-0). The Huskies, who trailed by two points at halftime, shot 58.3 percent overall after intermission.
Coppin State fell to 0-1 with the loss. Rashida Suber paced the Eagles with 20 points.
The first point in the new venue was scored by Northeastern's Sigrid Scherpiert with 19:02 to play in the first half. She connected on one of two free throws to put the Huskies up 1-0.
Thirteen seconds later, Suber recorded the first field goal, hitting a jumper. Northeastern will conclude the event on Sunday morning, facing Texas Tech. The Eagles will face host UCF in the afternoon.
