ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A small group of UCF cross country athletes, some making their season debut, is set to compete at the FLRunners.com Invitational in Titusville, Fla. on Friday afternoon.
Six Knights are entered in the meet that features a field of in-state schools, including Bethune-Cookman, Stetson and Miami. The event will be raced at Chain of Lakes Park with the women's race beginning at 6 p.m. followed by the men's at 6:25 p.m.
In the women's 5K race, five athletes will be making their season debut in a UCF uniform. Senior Kristen Zieminski (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview HS) is the most experienced in the Knights' line-up. Although she has not competed this season, she owns a personal-best time of 19:53.27 at the distance. Junior Kelly McNeill (Coral Springs, Fla./Taravella HS) and sophomore Jaclyn Johnson (Valrico, Fla./Bloomingdale HS) have both previously posted times of 19:51.
A middle distance specialist for the UCF track and field team, sophomore Stephanie Knapp (Englewood, Fla./Lemon Bay HS) represents the Knights for the first time during cross country season. Meanwhile, freshman Ocean Cohen (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview HS) competed as an unattached runner at the Mountain Dew Invitational in early September, going 21:28.24. Her personal-best time in 5K stands at 19:13.
Freshman Miles Harris (Newberry, Fla./Oak Hill HS) is the lone representative from the UCF men's cross country team. He recorded a career-best time of 27:42 in the 8K at the Paul Short Invitational a week ago.
The complete Knights' cross country line-up returns to competition at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla. on Friday, Oct. 12.
