Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF golfers earned both the Conference USA Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week awards after producing a pair of top 10 finishes at home events this past weekend. Freshman Jhared Hack (Sanford, Fla./Circle Christian) is the men's honoree, while junior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./The Pendleton School) earned the league's award on the women's side.
Hack tied for 10th at the 2007 Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational in a field that included a field of 10 of the nation's top 25 teams. Hack posted a three-round total of 214 (-2), helping the Knights to a seventh-place showing. Connelly won an individual-only event, claiming medalist honors at the NorthShore Shootout.
Hack carded a one-under 71 to open the event and posted a third-round 69 (-3). The third-round performance was good for a season-low for the rookie. Thanks to Hack's performance, the Knights concluded the tournament ahead of four teams ranked in the top-20 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index: No. 6 Florida State, No. 8 Stanford, No. 10 Texas A&M and No. 19 South Carolina.
This season, Hack has finished in the top-10 in three of UCF's four events. This is the first career weekly honor for Hack.
Connelly talliled a three-day score of 223 (+7) and rallied from a three-stroke deficit entering to final round to defeat teammate Liz Alger (Tequesta, Fla./Batt Private School) in a two-hole playoff.
In the 10-person field, Connelly closed the tournament with a 75 (+3) after getting back into contention with a 71 (-1) during Monday's second round. It was her first round below par this season. Connelly and Alger each finished with a three-round score of (223, +7). The weekly award is the first of Connelly's career.
