Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Junior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./The Pendleton School) erased a three-shot deficit in the final round of the NorthShore Shootout and won a two-hole playoff with teammate Liz Alger (Tequesta, Fla./Batt Private School) to capture medalist honors at the three-round event.
Connelly carded a final round 75 (+3) and made par on the second playoff hole to rally for her first individual title as a Knight. Alger, who led the tournament after the first and second rounds, posted a 78 (+6) in the final round as both players finished 54 holes with a three-round score of 223 (+7).
Freshman Katie Detlefsen gave the Knights a trio of the top four finishers as she tied for fourth in the event with Bethune Cookman's Becky Dowell. That duo finished the three-day event at the NorthShore Golf and Country Club with a score of 237 (+21). Dowell's Wildcat teammate Fern Grimshaw took third, posting the second best score of the final round with a 77 (+5).
The UCF women's golf team returns to their fall team schedule on Friday at the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate in Tuscaloosa. The three-round event concludes on Sunday.
