Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - A pair of UCF women's golfers sit a top the leaderboard after round two play Monday of the NorthShore Shootout. Freshman Liz Alger (Tequesta, Fla./Batt Private School) maintained her overall lead with a second-round 74 (+2) on the par 72, 6,035-yard layout at the NorthShore Golf Club.
Alger holds a three-shot lead (145, +1) on teammate Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./The Pendleton School), who fired the low round of the day with 71 (-1). Connelly improved six strokes from her opening round and has a four-shot cushion on third place.
Bethune-Cookman's Becky Dowell is in third after a 78 (+6). She has a two-round total of 152 (+8). Wildcat teammate Fern Grimshaw is in fourth place following an 82 (+10). She had an opening round 72 (E).
UCF freshman Katie Detlefsen rounds out the top five with her two-round score of 157 (+13). Florida's Nicole Schachner equalled Connelly for the best improvement in round two, shaving six strokes of her first round score as well to post a 78 (+6). Her Gator teammate Brittany Nelson is in sixth with two-round total of 159 (+15).
Bethune Cookman's Emma Tayler is one stroke ahead of Schachner in seventh place. Tayler has rounds of 80 and 81 for a 36-hole score of 161 (+17). Rounding out the scoring for the Knights was senior Annabel Silk, who carded an 84 (+12). Florida's Laura Erzisnisk rounds out the 10-individual field with a two-round total of 166 (+22).
Only individual scores are being kept at the three-round event which concludes on Tuesday.
