ATHENS, Ga. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Day two of the ITA Southern Regionals got underway Sunday and the UCF women's tennis team has two singles players still alive. Senior Kyla McNicol and freshman Isa Ohlinger both won their respective matches in the consolation singles bracket, which is taking place at the University of Georgia.
In the consolation "B" bracket, McNicol got past Troy's Carolina Joania, 6-0, 6-3, while Ohlinger defeated Laura Pfeiffer from Florida Gulf Coast, 6-0, 6-3. Over in the "A" draw, senior Anna Yakimchenkova suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Georgia's Adrienne Elsberry.
Two Knights survived Saturday's action in the "B" singles main draw, but senior Jennifer Carati and freshman Jenny Frisell could not advance on Sunday.
In the "A" doubles bracket, Yakimchenkova and junior Elvira Serrot were bounced by Florida International's Egle Petrauskaite and Liset Brito, 8-3. The FIU duo was one of four tandems seeded No. 5-8 for the event. In the "B" section, McNicol and junior Kenza Belbacha lost to Mississippi's Mimi Renaudin and Soledad Podlipnik, 9-7. Carati and Frisell did get through to the second round with an 8-2 win over Kennesaw State's Karen Ammann and Agatha Palider. However, the Knight pair dropped an 8-4 decision to No. 3 Ania Rynarzewska and Federica Suess from Florida State.
Action at the University of Georgia resumes Monday morning.
