ATHENS, Ga. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team kicked off the ITA Southern Regionals Friday at the University of Georgia with the first two rounds of singles. Senior Jennifer Carati and freshman Jenny Frisell both stayed alive in the "B" singles draw for the Knights.
Carati surrendered just two games in her first match, getting past Jacksonville's Fernanda Camero, 6-2, 6-0. In the second round, Carati won again in straight sets in a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Florida International's Maria Vallasciani. Frisell, meanwhile, also breezed through the first round by posting a 6-0, 6-1 triumph vs. Kennesaw State's Agatha Palider. Frisell then edged Alabama's Elise Wettermark, 6-3, 6-3, to reach the third round.
Junior Elvira Serrot cruised through her first-round match in the "A" singles draw, defeating UAB's Antonia Nugent, 6-1, 6-3. However, Serrot was bounced in the second round by Georgia Tech's Kirsten Flower, who was ranked No. 23 in the country, 6-3, 6-2. Also in the "A" single bracket, senior Anna Yakimchenkova suffered a very close first-round loss to Alabama's Bianca Svensson, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
