Dos Santos Scores Three Goals vs. SMU
ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF women's soccer forward Danielle Dos Santos (Campinas, Brazil) continued to earn recognition for her memorable road trip to Tulsa and SMU last week. A day after receiving Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors, dos Santos was named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week Tuesday.
Dos Santos' selection to the prestigious team was the third in school history, and first since former Knight Roberta Pelarigo represented UCF during the 2006 season.
One of head coach Amanda Cromwell's key bench players in 2007, dos Santos notched an assist in a 4-0 win at Tulsa Oct. 12, then broke out for eight points in a 5-0 shutout over C-USA preseason favorite SMU Oct. 14. The junior had just one point before the road trip started, but left as the C-USA leader in point production in league games this year.
In the win over the Mustangs, dos Santos became the first Knight since 2002 (Ansley Gascoigne) to score at least three goals in a game, and the 33rd player in UCF history to notch a hat trick. She added two assists en route to having a hand in all five goals. A transfer from Lincoln Memorial University, dos Santos came within two points of tying the all-time UCF mark for points in a game (Kelly Kochevar), and just one shy of the C-USA record.
Dos Santos' efforts enabled UCF to stay undefeated in C-USA this season, as the Knights own a 4-0-0 mark (9-2-2 overall). The Black and Gold will put sole possession of first place on the line when it hosts UTEP Friday at 7 p.m. The Miners are 3-0-0 for nine conference points. UCF finishes this weekend vs. Colorado College Sunday at noon.
