Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team concluded its three-match home-stand Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 (30-27, 19-30, 27-30, 31-33) loss to Conference USA-foe SMU at the new UCF Arena. Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) led the Knights with a season-high 21 kills and 15 digs, for her second-straight double-double.
The loss dropped the Knights' record to 9-14 on the season and 0-8 in league matches. The Mustangs improved to 4-4 in C-USA matches for an overall record of 14-8.
Junior middle blocker Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.) hit .343 with 14 kills and six total blocks, while Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas) registered eight kills and five total blocks, which included two solo blocks. Cassie Ramaekers (Blue Grass, Iowa) also contributed big numbers for the defense with a team-high 16 digs against the visiting Mustangs.
UCF took game one behind five kills from Campbell, including two-straight kills to end the match. But, the Knights hit a match-high .359 in the third game recording 17 kills and only three errors.
SMU had two players record double-doubles in the match. Kathryn Wilkerson had 19 kills and 13 digs and Caitlin Rainbird posted 17kills and 20 digs for the Mustangs.
The Knights are back on the road Oct. 19 and Oct. 21 for matches at Tulane and UTEP. Friday's match in New Orleans is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, while Sunday's match in El Paso is set for 1 p.m. ET.
