Bradenton, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - This past weekend, five student-athletes from the UCF men's tennis team played in the IMG Treibly Invitational in Bradenton. Junior Jimmy Roesch (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) won four-consecutive singles matches against first-rate competition.
Roesch, who played in Group G for singles, defeated Florida's Erik Corace, 10-7. The Melbourne native also breezed past Georgetown's Paul Doucas, 10-0, and then beat Andrew Choi of Temple, 10-6.
Freshman Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) played in Group A for the singles portion of the event. Romano knocked off Will Lowell of Georgetown, 10-4, and then went on to defeat Wisconsin's Luke Rassow Kantor, 10-9.
Also, senior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey) won two matches in Group B. Sudas' first win came against Georgetown's David Tillem, 10-6. The next win for Sudas came against Ricardo Velasquez of Temple, 10-1.
In doubles, Roesch and junior Danny Colon (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood) defeated Temple's duo of Ricardo Velasquez and Eduardo Saavedra 9-8(6).
The Knights prepare to host the UCF Fall Invitational from Oct. 26-28 at the UCF Tennis Complex.
