UCF Volleyball Hosts Tulsa, SMU in Conference USA Action

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Following a 3-0 sweep of The Citadel Tuesday at the new UCF Arena, the UCF volleyball team continues it three-match home stand this weekend with a pair of matches against Conference USA foes Tulsa and SMU. Friday's match against Tulsa marks the Knights' "Dig for the Cure" kickoff and is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Sunday's match versus SMU is set to begin at 1 p.m.

The Knights match Friday against Tulsa was originally scheduled to be held in the education gym on campus, but has been moved to the new UCF Arena.

Junior middle blocker Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.) guided the Knights (9-12, 0-6 C-USA) to a 3-0 sweep over The Citadel Tuesday, hitting .667 with nine kills and three block assists, securing her the third spot in blocks on the league leader board.

Also making the C-USA Top-10 is freshman Blaire Brueggemeyer (Burleson, Texas), whose 9.49 assists per game average landed her in the 10th position among the conference-best. The setter also leads the Knights with 541 assists in 2007, aiding junior outside hitter Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas) to a team-high 206 kills.

Last weekend, Tulsa (16-5, 4-2 C-USA) defeated both Houston and Rice at home to move into a four-way tie for third place in the C-USA standings with UAB, Memphis and Houston. Senior Fabiola Nepomuceno led the Hurricane with 27 kills against the Owls and moved to sixth on the league-leader board with 325 kills on the season. UCF and Tulsa will meet for the fourth time on Friday, with the Hurricane leading the series, 2-1.

SMU (12-8, 2-4 C-USA) also faced Houston and Rice last weekend at home, securing a win over the Owls on Friday, before dropping a 3-0 match to Houston on Sunday. In the victory over Rice, three different Mustangs recorded 15 or more kills, which included 16 from Natalie Peters, who currently leads SMU with 243 kills on the season. Setter Stefanie Kons has a team-high 785 assists, good for fifth in the league. The Knights play SMU for only the third time in history, with the Mustangs leading the series, 2-0.

Sunday's match versus SMU is also Family Fun Day at the new UCF Arena. Fans will be able to purchase two hot dogs, two Cokes and a box of popcorn for only $10!
