ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Thanks to two very important goals against Loyola (Md.) Sept. 28, UCF women's soccer sophomore Brianna Schooley (Coral Springs, Fla.) was selected as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday. The accolade was Schooley's first of her career, while it was the fourth weekly honor for UCF (5-2-2) this season.
In what was UCF's final nonconference match of the year, Schooley made sure her team would enter C-USA play on a very high note. Down 2-1 late in the second half to Loyola, the midfielder gathered a pass from classmate Yvonne George (Winter Springs, Fla.) and sent a shot just underneath the crossbar to tie it in the 69th minute. With overtime now looming, the Knights earned a corner kick in the 89th minute and took advantage. As Schooley took position near the far post, senior Arielle Orr (Palm Harbor, Fla.) delivered a perfect pass into the box, where Schooley headed it into the net to give UCF a 3-2 victory.
The tallies were the first for Schooley in 2007, while they gave her five goals in her career. The game-winner, meanwhile, was her second in a Black and Gold uniform.
Schooley and the Knights begin C-USA action this weekend when they wrap up their five-game homestand at the UCF Soccer Complex. UCF opens the league schedule by hosting Marshall Friday at 7 p.m., and then takes on East Carolina Sunday at 1 p.m.
