ORLANDO - Many former UCF Knights played key roles during week four of the NFL season. From Cornell Green protecting Daunte Culpepper in the Oakland Raiders' win, to Atari Bigby helping the Green Bay Packers stay undefeated, here's a recap from Sunday's action.
UCF Knights in the NFL - Week Four
Atari Bigby - Safety - Green Bay Packers (def. Minnesota 23-16)
Bigby sealed the victory for the Packers by intercepting Kelly Holcomb's pass with just 1:11 remaining in regulation. But he was instrumental in helping Green Bay connect for its first touchdown as well. With Minnesota driving in the first quarter, Bigby forced a fumble that returned the ball to his offense. That led to Brett Favre breaking the NFL record for career touchdown passes when he found Greg Jennings for a 16-yard strike to give the Packers a 7-0 lead. Bigby finished with four tackles.
Daunte Culpepper - QB - Oakland Raiders (def. Miami 35-17)
Culpepper may have finished just 5-of-12 for 75 yards against his former team, but he made the Dolphins learn what many UCF opponents found out when Culpepper suited up for the Knights: he can run. Culpepper racked up three rushing touchdowns in the Raiders' win and he also notched two touchdown passes, both to Jerry Porter. Oakland has now won both games that Culpepper has appeared in.
Travis Fisher - DB - Detroit Lions (def. Chicago 37-27)
Fisher amassed five tackles for the Detroit defense. His efforts helped the Lions post a come-from-behind victory over the Bears and move to 3-1 on the season.
Michael Gaines - TE - Buffalo Bills (def. N.Y. Jets 17-14)
As the Bills held a slim 10-7 lead over the Jets late in the fourth quarter, Buffalo was faced with a fourth-and-goal from the Jets' one-yard line. But Gaines gave his team some much-needed insurance by nabbing a TD pass from Trent Edwards. Gaines ended up with four catches for 20 yards.
Cornell Green - OT - Oakland Raiders (def. Miami 35-17)
Green made the start at right tackle for the Raiders, and is enjoying having his former UCF QB behind him. Green allowed Daunte Culpepper to rush for three touchdowns, while he also aided in the efforts of running back Justin Fargas, who rushed for 179 yards on 22 carries (8.1 average) in the Raiders' win.
Brandon Marshall - WR - Denver Broncos (lost Indianapolis 38-20)
While the Broncos may have fell to the defending Super Bowl champions, Marshall was the receipient of Jay Cutler's lone touchdown pass. Marshall ended up with three catches for 23 yards.
Asante Samuel - DB - New England Patriots (vs. Cincinnati Monday)
Samuel and the Patriots travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals Monday night. So far this year, the former Knight has six tackles and one interception.
