Knights Win UCF Invitational Title With 3-2 Victory Over Montana State

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Three Knights recorded double-doubles as the UCF volleyball team won its fourth-consecutive match on Saturday, defeating Montana State, 3-2 (29-31, 31-29, 30-22, 29-31, 15-9), to win the UCF Fall Invitational. The Knights (6-5) went undefeated at the event.

Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded 18 kills and a match-high 26 digs in the win. Teammate Blaire Brueggemeyer (Burleson, Texas) totaled a match-best 68 assists to go with 14 digs for the Knights. Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.) rounded out the trio of UCF players with a double-double as she totaled 15 kills and 10 total blocks.

The hosts hit .421 in the decisive fifth game, compared to -.053 for the Bobcats, who fell to 1-10 with the loss. In the final game, Bruggemeyer dished out nine assists.

Heppert also recorded eight service aces as the Knights had 15 for the contest. UCF's Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas) paced all players with 21 kills.

Heppert was named the tournament's MVP. She was joined by Serna on the all-tournament team.

"The poise that these young players showed was incredible all weekend long," said UCF head coach Meg Colado. "Jenny Heppert is incredibly consistent and was impressive each match."

UCF recorded 15 total team blocks for the contest.

Montana State was led by Laura Viren with 12 kills and 17 digs. Sarah Allen had 55 assists.

North Florida's Kaley Read, Florida Atlantic's Katie Arvidson, Central Michigan's Whitney Evers and Viren all garnered spots on the all-tournament squad.

Colado's team returns to the court on Friday, facing USF in Tampa to open the USF Best Western Invitational.
