ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) -The UCF volleyball team served visiting Central Michigan its first loss of the season Friday at the UCF Invitational with a 3-1 (29-31, 30-28, 30-27, 30-28) victory at the old UCF Arena. The Knights (5-5) were led by Stephanie Serna with 18 kills and Jenny Heppert who hit .636 in the match.
Heppert also led the team with two solo blocks, while adding 15 kills. Erin Campbell added 10 kills and three service aces in the win.
Despite UCF dropping the first match, the Knights hit .300 or better in the next three games, including a .419 clip in the third game.
Kelly Weaver recorded six service aces in the win, which tied the freshman for the sixth spot on the UCF single-game register. The Texas native also had nine kills and three total blocks. Additionally, Kristen Petrasic had a match-high 16 digs.
Fellow freshman Blaire Brueggemeyer recorded a match-high 43 assists and added five kills and four digs.
"Blaire is a really fine player," head coach Meg Colado said. "She understands the game at a very high level, especially for a freshman. She can run the offense with poise for a young player. All of these freshmen refuse to allow the team to stop fighting."
Central Michigan (8-1) struggled at the net, recording 31 attacking errors against the Knights.
The Black and Gold will conclude the UCF Invitational Saturday with a match at 4 p.m. against Montana State at the old UCF Arena.
