Boulder, Colo. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF volleyball player Schanell Neiderworder was named to the Colorado Invitational All-Tournament Team for her steady play last weekend. The senior led the Knights with 29 total kills against some of the Black and Gold's toughest competition of the young season, which included matches against UNC-Wilmington, No. 11 California and Colorado.
"Schanell put up some impressive offensive numbers throughout the tournament," head coach Meg Colado said. "She is a very solid passer and did a good job on defense. Also, against Cal, she blocked very well. It just shows that she is a solid overall player."
Neiderworder's first match back to her home state of Colorado was against UNC-Wilmington Friday afternoon. The senior had a team-high 16 kills, as well as four block assists and a service ace to lead the Knights to a 3-2 victory over the Seahawks.
The outside hitter put down eight kills versus No. 11 California Friday night to lead UCF in kills for the second match in a row. Neiderworder also recorded two blocks in the contest, including the Black and Gold's lone solo block.
Neiderworder concluded the tournament Saturday night with five kills and four digs against the host Colorado.
"It's really neat to be named to the all-tournament team," Neiderworder said. "It is really nice to go home to Colorado and receive that honor, but it was not something I was expecting."
The Knights will play at home for the first time this season when they host the UCF Invitational at the old UCF Arena Sept. 6-8.
