UCF Volleyball Opens UCF Arena With Loss to East Carolina

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team dropped the opening match at the new UCF Arena Friday night, 3-0 (18-30, 13-30, 18-30), to Conference USA foe East Carolina Friday night. The Knights dropped to 8-9 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Sophomore Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) led the Black and Gold with nine kills, while junior Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas) added six. Freshman libero Kristen Petrasic (Carrollton, Texas) registered a match-high 12 digs in the match for the Knights.

The Pirates moved their record to 11-7 and 2-1 in C-USA matches. Senior Kelly Wernert led ECU with a match-high 14 kills and added three total blocks. Katie Coop also recorded 21 assists for the Pirates.

The match marked the first time any UCF athletic team played in the new UCF Arena. The Black and Gold saw a record home crowd in the opening, with 401loyal Knights fans in attendance.

The Knights return to the new UCF Arena Sunday Sept. 30 for a C-USA match-up with Marshall at Noon. The Thundering Herd is undefeated in league matches this season.
