Sept. 28, 2007

Tulsa, Okla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - This weekend, three student-athletes from the UCF men's tennis team travel to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the 2007 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships. Junior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze), sophomore Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and freshman Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela), who are in the pre-qualifying tournament, have the opportunity to contend in the main draw from Oct. 4-7.

In the pre-qualifying tournament, Sakey will play the winner of the Dmitry Lebedev (Arkansas)/Michael O'Shea (Florida State) match. Beigart, who also earned a bye in the first round, will face either Rodrigo Morgado (UTSA) or David Simon (Louisville). Romano squares off against No. 17 Jay Goldman (Arizona).

The three Knights are vying for 16 spots in the 128-player field. The annual tennis tournament, held at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center, offers the first singles and doubles title of the 2007-08 season.

Sakey, Beigart and Romano participated in their first tournament this season from Sept. 21-23 at the Rollins C.L. Varner Memorial Invite.

Romano finished singles play at a perfect 4-0 and capturing the B bracket singles title. Beigart also reached the finals after knocking off three-straight opponents, but did not get a chance to play in the final due to rain. Sakey finished the tournament 1-1 in singles play, but won the flight A doubles title with Beigart.
