UCF Volleyball Drops Match at Rice

Houston, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - Despite a team-high nine kills and three block assists from junior middle blocker Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.), the UCF volleyball team fell in Conference USA action, 3-0 (17-30, 27-30, 24-30), to Rice on Sunday afternoon in Houston, Texas.

With the loss, the Knights fall to 8-8 on the season and 0-2 in league matches. The Owls improved their conference record to 2-1, while moving their overall clip to 7-8.

Freshman Kerry Brown (Elburn, Ill.) hit .357 with eight kills and two block assists, while fellow rookie Blaire Brueggemeyer (Burleson, Texas) posted 22 assists, seven digs and two block assists in the match.

Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) had a team-high 13 digs for the Knights and sophomore libero Kristen Petrasic (Carrollton, Texas) added 12.

Rice's Jessica Holderness led the hosts with match-highs in both kills and digs, registering 11 and 15, respectively.

The match was a homecoming of sorts for three Knights that hail from the state of Texas. Brueggemeyer, Petrasic and junior Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas) all call the Lonestar State home.

The Knights return to action Sept. 28 when they take on league-foe East Carolina at the new UCF Arena at 7 p.m.
