Sept. 21, 2007

WINTER PARK, Fla. - UCF dominated the first day of competition at the Rollins College C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational Friday. In what was the Knights' first action of the 2007-08 season, the Black and Gold went a combined 9-1 as it will begin day two Saturday with a lot of momentum.

In the flight A singles draw, seniors Kyla McNicol and Anna Yakimchenkova and junior Elvira Serrot all picked up victories, while senior Jennifer Carati and freshmen Jenny Frisell and Isa Ohlinger advanced in the flight B draw.

Over in doubles action, McNicol and junior Kenza Belbacha teamed up for a win in the flight A bracket, as did the tandem of Serrot and Yakimchenkova. Rounding out UCF's success on the court, Frisell and Carati had no trouble staying alive in the flight B draw.
