Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (19-30, 26-30, 17-30) decision to Houston (7-6, 2-0 C-USA) in Conference USA action Friday night at Hagerty High School. Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) paced the Knights with 13 kills, while also registering seven digs and two block assists.

UCF (8-7, 0-1 C-USA) played the league opener without Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas) who leads the team in kills.

"We passed pretty well tonight, we just didn't have the firepower that we needed," head coach Meg Colado said. "We are kind of banged up right now and that showed through tonight."

Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo.) had six kills and four digs in the contest.

The Knights had the opportunity to win the second game, going up 19-16 after coming back from a 12-6 deficit, sparked by three straight service aces by freshman Blaire Brueggemeyer (Burleson, Texas). Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.) and Kelly Weaver (Port Orange, Fla.)had two-straight block assists, while Neiderworder and Campbell had some timely kills to force the Cougars to take a timeout. Following the break, Houston's Justine Farmer answered back with five of her match-high 15 kills to close out the game at 30-26.

Heppert ended the match with six kills, two solo blocks and three block assists. Brueggemeyer added a match-high 29 assists and four service aces for the Knights.
