UCF Opens Fall Slate Against Top Field

Sept. 21, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team will face a challenging field when it opens the 2007 fall campaign on Monday at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day tournament features 12 teams who finished last season ranked among the top-100 squads in the nation.

Head coach Nick Clinard's UCF squad is currently ranked 30th nationally in the preseason Golfweek magazine poll. Senior Chris Anderson (Lake Mary, Fla./Seminole), juniors Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) and David Johnson (Melbourne, Fla./Melbourne), sophomore Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) and freshman Jhared Hack (Sanford, Fla./Circle Christian) will all be in action for the Knights.

Hack was recently listed as one of the top players in the nation by Golf World magazine. In August, he claimed the prestigious Western Amateur in Michigan.

A transfer from Brevard Community College, Johnson will be competing for the Knights for the first time. He played in the U.S. Amateur in late August before heading to UCF.

In addition to UCF, Auburn, Michigan State, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, host UAB, Ole Miss, North Florida, Georgia Southern, Louisiana State, Nevada and Oklahoma will be participating in the event. A year ago, Clinard's team finished fourth at the tournament. Forest tied for 23rd.

In 1984 and 1990, Shoal Creek hosted the PGA Championship. This summer, the U.S. Junior Amateur will be held at the course this summer.

UCF will compete in five events this fall.
