Kevin Smith rushed for 217 yards and two scores as the Knights defeated host NC State, 25-23, in their season debut. The junior from Miami scored on a school-record 80-yard run on the first play from scrimmage. He had a career-high 35 carries. The 217 yards were good for third all-time in UCF history. After a week off, the Knights will return to the gridiron on Sept. 15, hosting Texas in the inaugural game at Bright House Networks Stadium.
