ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF head women's rowing coach Leeanne Crain announced the hiring of Kris Muhl as an assistant coach on Thursday. Among Muhl's duties will be guiding the Knights' lightweight squad.

"We are very pleased to have Kris join our staff," said Crain, who is entering her fifth year at the helm of the UCF program. "The experience he brings from Cal will be an asset as we continue to build the lightweight program and take it to the next level."

Muhl comes to UCF after spending two years as an assistant coach and director of operations with the University of California men's rowing team. During that time, he helped the Golden Bears earn the Pacific-10 Conference title and claim the 2006 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship in the varsity eight.

Prior to working at Cal, Muhl spent five years working with the University of Iowa men's rowing club. He started during the winter of 1999 as the coxswain coach eventually becoming head coach of the program in spring 2004.

While earning his graduate degree at Loyola University, Muhl acted as head novice coach for the Northwestern University men's club program, guiding the open 4+ crew to a second-place finish at Midwest Sprints and fourth at the Dad Vail Regatta.

Muhl holds a bachelor of arts degree in Portuguese and political science from Iowa and a master of business administration from Loyola. He also possesses USRowing Level III coaching certification.
