Tampa, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team secured two wins at the USF Best Western Invitational Friday afternoon, posting a 3-2 (30-16, 23-30, 25-30, 30-28, 16-14) win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, before downing George Mason 3-1(30-22, 24-30, 30-22, 30-27) to conclude the tournament. The Knights have won six of their last seven matches, which includes four-straight wins at the UCF Invitational last weekend.
Sophomore Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and 20digs to lead the Knights to a 3-2 victory over Texas A&M - Corpus Christi early Friday afternoon.
Four of UCF's eight wins in 2007 have come in the decisive fifth game of a match.
Junior Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas) also had 16 kills for the Knights, recording double digits in kills for the sixth-straight match, dating back to UCF's Sept. 6 win against North Florida. Fellow junior Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan.) added 10 kills and a match-high seven block assists in the victory.
Freshman Blaire Brueggemeyer (Burleson, Texas) chipped in a match-high 47 assists along with nine kills, nine digs and three blocks assists.
The Knights finished the match with 12 total team blocks compared to only four team blocks by the Islanders.
Against George Mason, Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo.) had a season-high 20 kills, while fellow senior Cassie Ramaekers (Blue Grass, Iowa) recorded a match-high 15 digs to guide the Black and Gold to its eighth victory of the season.
Brueggemeyer put up 30 assists in the match, while sophomore Andrea Youngblood (Castle Rock, Colo.) contributed 14.
For the second match in a row, UCF out-blocked its opponent. The Knights totaled 10 team blocks while the Patriots could only manage three.
The Knights return home when they open Conference USA play against Houston Sept. 21. The match begins at 7 p.m. and will be played at Hagerty High School.
