UCF Women's Golf Team Takes Third At Badger Invita

Sept. 10, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Heavy rains forced the cancellation of the final round of the Badger Invitational on Monday as the UCF women's golf team claimed third place based on its efforts from the first 36 holes of tournament play on Sunday.

The Knights' five competitors had actually completed a majority of their final rounds before conditions became unplayable and according to head coach Emilee Klein, UCF was making a move up the leaderboard.

"I am really proud of the girls," Klein said. "It's unfortunate that play was called, but there is nothing you can do about that. The girls were playing really well today and closing in on the leaders. They played great despite the tough conditions. They were really grinding and showed a lot of heart out there."

UCF posted a 607 (+31) in Sunday's opening two rounds to finish third in the 12-team field. Oklahoma was awarded the team championship after the Sooners shot a 594 (+18). Iowa State took second place, finishing just two strokes ahead of the Knights with a 605 (+29).

Sophomore Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va.) finished the tournament in a tie for second at 148 (+4), which is her best career finish as a Knight. She surpassed her tied for fourth finish at the 2006 Lady Pirate Invitational. Iowa State's Kendra Hanson, who was competing as an individual, captured medalist honors, just one stroke ahead of Hurwitch with a 147 (+3).

The Knights will continue their fall schedule on September 30th at the Wildcat Classic in Lexington, Ky.
