George, Kravec Receive C-USA Women's Soccer Player of the Week Honors

Sept. 10, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - By outscoring its opponents 5-1 en route to winning the UCF Invitational Sept. 7 and 9, the UCF women's soccer team swept the Conference USA weekly awards Monday. Sophomore midfielder Yvonne George (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) received C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honors, while senior back Kelsey Kravec (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) was tapped as the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, as the Knights defeated UNLV, 2-1, and UC Davis, 3-0.

UCF (3-1-0) had the difficult task of facing a pair of undefeated programs in UNLV and UC Davis in the tournament, but George and Kravec stepped up to help the Knights pull out two victories. George opened the weekend by assisting on the game-winning goal vs. the Rebels, using some impressive ball-handling skills to put the pass on target for sophomore Becca Thomas to give the Black and Gold the lead for good. George then registered her first collegiate goal, which also was the game-winner, in the first half vs. UC Davis. For the weekend, she recorded five shots, three on goal, and claimed the UCF Invitational Tournament MVP award for her all-around performance in both matches.

Kravec was a staple at defense against the Rebels and Aggies. She was part of a Knight core that allowed just one goal and four corner kicks for the tournament. Kravec got in the act offensively as well, setting up sophomore Courtney Whidden's goal vs. UC Davis for her first career assist. At the conclusion of the event, Kravec was named to the UCF Invitational All-Tournament Team.

The C-USA weekly honors were the first for both George and Kravec.

The duo will help lead the Knights against two SEC programs when they return to the field Sept. 14 and 16. UCF travels to Mississippi State Friday for an 8 p.m. showdown, then takes on Ole Miss Sunday at 2 p.m. in Oxford.
