ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Golf World magazine recently published its annual college preview and the UCF men's squad garnered recognition from the publication. Freshman Jhared Hack (Sanford, Fla./Circle Christian) was named one of the top-50 players to watch in the nation and the Knights received five votes in the Golf World/Nike Golf coaches poll.
Entering his first campaign with the Knights, Hack was listed among the top players in the country by the publication. In August, Hack claimed the prestigious Western Amateur in Michigan. In 2006, he won the Western Junior and earned American Junior Golf Association First-Team All-America honors.
As a result of his performance at the Western Amateur, he moved into the top-20 of the Golfweek/Titleist Men's Amateur rankings. Hack was one of only six freshmen on the players to watch list.
Head coach Nick Clinard's squad garnered five votes in the top-25 poll. A year ago, the Knights participated in the NCAA East Regional. The team finished 2006-07 ranked 39th in the country.
Clinard's squad returns 10 players from last year.
UCF opens the fall campaign on Sept. 24 at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
