Zondervan to Spend Time with Dutch National Team

Aug. 7, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF junior forward/center Kenrick Zondervan (Hoffddorp, Holland) will face some top competition this month as he has been invited to practice with the Dutch National Team. Zondervan left Orlando this past weekend and will spend much of August working out with Holland's senior national squad in his homeland.

He will practice with the team as it prepares for three games in the qualifying round of the EuroBasket Tournament. Holland is one of 14 teams in EuroBasket Division B.

Zondervan showed great improvement as a sophomore this past year, starting 30 games at center and averaging 3.9 points and 2.8 boards per contest. He helped the Knights go 22-9 overall and finish second in Conference USA.

The Dutch team features several professional players, including center Francisco Elson. This past season, Elson was a member of San Antonio's National Basketball Association Championship squad.

While in his native country, Zondervan could see time in three games. The Dutch team faces Belarus on Aug. 19, Slovakia on Aug. 25 and Great Britain on Aug. 29.

Zondervan made his UCF debut during the 2005-06 campaign, averaging 2.5 minutes in 18 games.

Prior to coming to UCF, he spent time with the Dutch Junior National Team.

Zondervan and the Knights will move into the new UCF Arena this season. Construction on the 10,000-seat venue is nearly completed. Fans can currently place a deposit for men's basketball season tickets by calling (407) 823-1000.
